Srikumar P. Chellappan

Srikumar P. Chellappan obtained his Ph.D. degree in biochemistry from the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, India, and did his postdoctoral training from the Duke University Medical Center, Durham, NC, USA. After being an Assistant Professor at the Department of Pathology at the Columbia University in New York, USA, from 1992 to 2001, he joined Moffitt Cancer Center, where he serves currently as the Chair of the Department of Tumor Biology. His research interests include signal transduction and transcriptional regulation, especially in the context of tumor progression and metastasis. His laboratory has been focusing on the gene regulatory mechanisms in nonsmall cell lung cancer and how they can be targeted using novel drugs. He has also worked on stem-like cells in nonsmall cell lung cancer, and how they facilitate tumor growth and metastasis. His work has been published in journals like PNAS, Journal of Clinical Investigation, JNCI, Molecular and Cellular Biology, and Cancer Research, among others. He has also served on the Editorial Board of multiple journals including Molecular Pharmacology, PLOS One, and Molecular Cancer. His research has been continuously funded by the NIH since 1994.
