Yunjun Yan graduated from the Department of Biology, Central China Normal University, Wuhan, China, in 1993, with his main major in molecular biology and microbiology. He then worked for his Ph.D. degree at Institute of Hydrobiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, China, during 1995-1998. Subsequently, he worked as an Associate Professor, then a Full Professor at Huazhong University of Science and Technology, China, since September 1998. From 2000, he became a Consultant Scientist of Rural and Social Department of the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) and came back to his University in 2007. He is now the Vice Dean of College of Life Science and Technology, Huazhong University of Science and Technology and deputy director of Key Laboratory of Molecular Biophysics of the Ministry of Education. His main interests are molecular microbiology, bioenergy, and biorefinery. He has developed a series of techniques on large-scale lipases production and enzymatic transesterified biodiesel production and its high-valued products. So far, he has published more than 230 papers and compiled 6 textbooks and monographs and got 10 items of awards.
