Udayan De has worked as a Professor at the Homi Bhabha National Institute, Mumbai, India. He has also served as a Scientist in the Department of Atomic Energy, Government of India. De holds an M.S. degree in physics and a Ph.D. degree in 1978 from Calcutta University, Kolkata, India. He was awarded a Humboldt Fellowship in Germany in 1979. He has guided Ph.D. students; worked as M.S./M.Tech./Ph.D. examiner; served as a referee for a few journals; attended more than 30 international conferences in India, Europe, Japan, Singapore, Taiwan, and Bangladesh; and had more than 200 publications, with about 80 in internationally reputed journals. His main R & D interests include applied physics and materials science (superconductivity, radiation damage, electroceramics, conducting polymers, materials preparation and characterization by various nuclear and other techniques, high temperature piezoelectric materials, polymer-solid composites as electromagnetic shielding materials, positron annihilation and TDPAC investigation of solids, Senftleben effect, and nonspherical intermolecular interaction in gases), environment and green energy, and global warming control.
