Maria Roca was born in Seville, Spain. Roca received her B.A. degree in biology and her Ph.D. degree in 2001 from Seville University, Seville, Spain. She had a two-year postdoctoral stay in the Institute of Grassland and Environmental Research (IGER), BBSRC, Aberystwyth, UK, with Dr. Helen Ougham and Dr. Howard Thomas and a short-stay with Dr. Stefan Hörtensteiner in Bern University, Bern, Switzerland. Then, she returned to Instituto de la Grasa (CSIC, Spanish Research Council), where she occupies a permanent position since July 2008. Research along these years has been centred on multiple areas: chlorophyll catabolism, HPLC, spectrophotometry, analysis of chlorophyll catabolites, senescence, and bioavailability.
