Osamu Handa holds M.D. and Ph.D. degrees and works as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Molecular Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Kyoto Prefectural University of Medicine, Kyoto, Japan. He received his M.D. degree from the Yamaguchi University, Yamaguchi, Japan, in 1994, and obtained his Ph.D. degree in gastroenterology from the Graduate School of Medical Science, Kyoto Prefectural University of Medicine, Kyoto, Japan, in 2003. Handa held an additional position as a Visiting Professor at the Faculty of Life and Medical Science, Doshisha University, Kyoto, Japan, in 2012. His clinical basic research field is the oxidative stress in pathophysiology and in gastroenterology. His current interests are Helicobacter pylori, gastric carcinogenesis, mucosal permeability, and small intestinal function.
