Stefka Germanova Taneva Visiting Senior Researcher, IKERBASQUE, Unidad de Biofísica (CSIC/UPV-EHU), Departamento de Bioquímica y Biología Molecular, Universidad del País Vasco, Spain on leave of the Institute of Biophysics and Biomedical Engineering, Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, Bulgaria. Stefka Germanova Taneva was born in Bulgaria. She graduated in physics at Sofia University and biophysics (two-year postgraduate specialization) Sofia University, Sofia, Bulgaria. S. Taneva received her Ph.D. in physics from the Institute of Biophysics, Biological Research Center, Hungarian Academy of Sciences, Szeged, Hungary. Since 1985 she was a Research Assoc., from 1994 to 2003 an Assoc. Professor and from 2003 is a Professor in the Institute of Biophysics (now Insitute of Biophysics and Biomedical Engineering), Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, Sofia, Bulgaria. After a year as a visiting researcher at Centre de Recherche en Photobiophysique, Universite du Quebec a Trois-Rivieres, Quebec, Canada (1992-1993), she spent 10 years (between 1993 and 2011) as a visiting scientist and visiting Professor at the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and Biophysics Unit (CSIC/UPV-EHU), University of Basque Country, Spain. S. Taneva has worked in the filed of biophysics with main focuses on Energetics of protein interactions, Conformation and stability of proteins and protein-pigment complexes, Light energy conversion and charge displacement in the retinal protein bacteriorhodopsin, Molecular mechanism of light energy transduction, Mechanisms of the function of molecular and nuclear chaperones, Static and dynamic electric properties of biological membranes and membrane ensembles. 16 August 2011
