Osama Y. Aldirbashi

Osama Y. Al-Dirbashi acts as an Assistant Professor of pediatrics at the University of Ottawa School of Medicine and Laboratory Head at the Newborn Screening Ontario. He is certified in biochemical genetics by the American Board of Medical Genetics as well as the Canadian College of Medical Geneticists. Al-Dirbashi obtained his B.S. degree in pharmaceutical sciences at the University of Jordan, Jordan, and M.S. and Ph.D. degree in bioanalytical chemistry at the Nagasaki University, Japan. He then went on to pursue further postdoctoral training at the Analytical Sciences Division of Aventis Pharma in Japan. In 2003, he joined the Metabolic Screening Laboratory at King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center in Riyadh and worked on developing new diagnostic methodologies for inborn errors of metabolism. He was appointed in 2007 the Head of the National Laboratory for Newborn Screening in Saudi Arabia, the largest mass spectrometry-based neonatal screening program in the Middle East. His research interests include the diagnosis of inborn errors of metabolism using tandem mass spectrometry and he has authored more than 45 articles in peer-reviewed journals.
