Carlos Andres Palacio was a Member of the Solid State Group (GES) of the Universidad de Antioquia (Colombia) since 1998. One year after completing his B.S. degree in physics from Universidad de Antioquia in 2002, in subjects related to Mössbauer spectroscopy, Palacio obtained a grant from the Ghent University in Belgium to perform his Ph.D. degree in topics related to positron annihilation spectroscopy. After working in the construction of an accelerator for positrons, his work was devoted to investigate some effects on polymers of low-energy implanted positrons. In 2008, he received his Ph.D. degree in physical sciences. Immediately after his Ph.D. degree, Palacio was hired in a private company that is specialized in developing software for the healthcare sector, and still working there. However, in addition to this job, Carlos has been able to pursue his science work in parallel to his daily activities. He performed a voluntary postdoctoral research in Ghent University during the two subsequent years 2009 and 2010 (10% of his time). Since 2003 till now, Carlos has been a Member and has worked in collaboration with the Nuclear and Material Physics Group (NUMAT) associated to the Department of Physics and Astronomy of the Ghent University as an Honorary Guest Researcher. From February 2013 till now, Carlos has been hired as a full time professor-researcher at the Universidad Antonio Nariño in Colombia and member of the GIFAM group where he is still doing research in solid state physics.
