Luigina Guasti, M.D., Ph.D., F.A.H.A., and F.E.S.C. degrees holder, worked as the Director of the “Unità Complessa Medicina Interna 1,” University Hospital, Ospedale di Circolo-Fondazione Macchi, Varese, Italy, Associate Professor in internal medicine, Director of the Research Center on Dyslipidemia, and Director of the School of Oncology, University of Insubria, Varese, Italy. Guasti was born in Piacenza, Italy, November 3, 1958, alumnus of Collegio Ghislieri, Pavia, Italy, and obtained Medicine and Surgery degree in 1983 magna cum laude (top ten percent graduate), University of Pavia, and ECFMG (Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates) US Certification, after passing FMGMS and TOEFL examinations (1985). Guasti worked as a Specialist in cardiology (1987), obtained the Ph.D. degree in cardiovascular pathophysiology (1994), and was awarded “Hypertension Specialist” European Society of Hypertension (2005), “FAHA,” Fellow of the American Heart Association (2011), and “FESC,” Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology (2016). Guasti held a position as "Ricercatore" (internal medicine) at the second Faculty of Pavia in Varese (now University of Insubria) where she became Associate Professor in 2002 and where she worked as M.D. doctor in internal medicine showing a particular interest in cardiovascular diseases and cardiovascular prevention (outpatient “Unità Semplice sulle dislipidemie”). In November 2011, she became the Chief of the “Medicina Interna 1” (10 M.D. doctors working in the ward and in the outpatient clinic: 42 hospitalization beds). Currently, Guasti is teaching at the School of Medicine of the University of Insubria (Corso di Laurea in Medicina e Chirurgia, Scuole di Specializzazione, Lauree Brevi). Guasti has authored more than 130 peer-reviewed publications in the field of cardiovascular disease and actively participated in national and international meetings with presentation of more than 250 abstracts.
