Ivano Mezzaroma was born in Rome, Italy, in 1957. He received the Medicine and Surgery degree (summa cum laude) in 1983 from the Sapienza University of Rome, Italy, and the Allergy, Immunology and Infectious Diseases degrees (summa cum laude) from the same university, in 1988 and 1994, respectively. Since 1990, Mezzaroma is with the Department of Clinical Medicine of Sapienza University of Rome. Presently, he serves as an Assistant Professor at Department of Clinical Medicine and Assistant physician in clinical immunology at Policlinico Umberto I Hospital in Rome. He is mainly interested in primary and acquired immune deficiencies and in treatment of HIV-1 disease. He teaches internal medicine, clinical immunology, and infectious diseases at the first School of Medicine (Sapienza University of Rome). He serves as a Principal Investigator/Coinvestigator in several clinical research trials and EAP of antiretroviral drugs, vaccines, and immunomodulating drugs. He received research funding by the Italian Institute of Health (ISS), Italian Ministry of University and Scientific Research (MIUR).
