Manuel Duarte Ortigueira

M. D. Ortigueira was born in Seia, Portugal, in 1949. He received the Electrical Engineer (Telecomunications) degree in 1975, the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering in 1984, and the title of “Agregado” in electrical engineering all from the Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), Universidade Técnica de Lisboa, Lisbon, Portugal. He was an Assistant Professor of IST till 2001 when he joined the Electrical Engineering Department, Faculty of Sciences and Technology, Universidade Nova de Lisboa. He currently teaches signals and systems theory and digital signal processing. In 1985, he joined the Digital Signal Processing Group at the Instituto de Engenharia de Sistemas e Computadores (INESC), Lisbon, and in 1997 the Center for Intelligent Robotics, UNINOVA. From 1988 to 1990, he was on leave at the Telecomunication School, Catalonia Polithecnic University, Barcelona, Spain, where he worked on radar simulation and moving source detection. His scientific interests include spectral estimation and identification of time series (ARMA models), spread-spectrum communications, biomedical signal processing, and signal processing applications of fractional calculus.
