Athina Pyrpasopoulou

Athina Pyrpasopoulou graduated in 1992 from the School of Biology and in 2001 from the Medical School, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki after finishing her Ph.D. degree at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory in Heidelberg, Germany, in April 1997. She has received several Greek and European fellowships throughout her pre- and postgraduate studies. Pyrpasopoulou specialized in internal medicine with a special clinical and research interest in rheumatology and autoinflammatory disorders. She has published more than 40 basic- and clinical research-based papers in peer-reviewed journals and is a reviewer in several rheumatology journals. In 2009, she received an Excellence Award from the Research Committee of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki for her work in the identification of B-cell markers to predict response of rheumatoid arthritis patients to rituximab. Pyrpasopoulou is currently a Consultant at the 2nd Propedeutic Department of Internal Medicine of the Ippokratio General Hospital in Thessaloniki, Greece.
