Gian Paolo Fadini holds an M.D. degree. He is an assistant physician at the Metabolic Division, University of Padova Medical School, and a Research Fellow at the same institution. His research interests are most devoted to the study of diabetic complications, especially macrovascular. During the last years, he performed a series of preclinical and clinical studies on the contributions of circulating progenitor cells in diabetes and cardiovascular disease and proposed a novel model for the pathogenesis of vascular disease in diabetes. Other interests include metabolic syndrome, vascular calcification, haematology, lung disease, and their relationships with cardiovascular disease. Fadini is Reviewer for many journals in the field of cardiovascular disease, including Circulation, Arteriosclerosis Thrombosis and Vascular Biology, European Heart Journal, and Journal of the American College of Cardiology, and diabetology, such as Diabetologia, Diabetes Care, Nutrition Metabolism, and Cardiovascular Disease. He is also an Associate Editor of Atherosclerosis and an Editorial Board Member of Clinical Science and Metabolic Syndrome and Related Disorders. He has been a recipient of many national and international prizes, including one 2008 Morgagni Silver Medal and an EASD Rising Star for his research on progenitor cells in diabetes and metabolic syndrome.
