Carlos Alberola López is a Professor of signal theory and communications in the Universidad of Valladolid, Spain. He holds an Ingeniero de Telecomunicación degree (1992) and a Ph.D. degree (1996), both from the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, Spain. In 1997, López held a postdoctoral position as a Visiting Scientist in Darmouth College (Hanover, NH, USA) funded by the Spanish Ministry of Education. In 1998, he founded the Laboratorio de Procesado de Imagen (LPI), a research group officially recognized by the University of Valladolid; this group is dedicated to the applications of statistical signal and image processing in different domains, with a special emphasis on the bioengineering field. Since the LPI was constituted, he has been a Principal Investigator of a number of research grants at regional, national, and European levels. López is also the Principal Investigator of several research contracts with companies and public institutions. He also held a four-year appointment as a Vicerector of his university, starting from 2006. He is the Coauthor of several book chapters and of more than one hundred journals and conference papers. López has advised several PhD students as well as a number of MS students. He is in the board of two scientific journals, has served as a Chairperson in several conferences, and is also the Reviewer of main journals and conferences in the field. He is a Member of a national society of bioengineering, and he was promoted to IEEE Senior Member in 2006. López is also a Member of a national committee for research grants approval.
