María Luisa Ferrándiz

Mª Luisa Ferrándiz was born in Valencia, Spain. She received the Pharmacy degree and the PhD from the University of Valencia, in 1985 and 1989, respectively. From 1986 to 1989 she enjoyed a fellowship at the Department of Pharmacology, University of Valencia, to develop her Doctoral Thesis about “Flavonoids inhibitors of arachidonic acid metabolism”. At the end of 1989 she received a postdoctoral fellowship to go to ICI Pharmaceuticals (Macclesfield, UK) to work with different animal models of inflammatory diseases and to investigate the role of cytokines in the inflammatory response. From October 1990 until July 1994 she continued her research in the Department of Pharmacology, University of Valencia, working as assistant lecturer and during this period she came back to ICI-Pharmaceuticals for 4 months. In 1992-1993 she worked as a visiting scientist in the Neurogerontology Laboratory of the Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics of the University of Alicante (Spain). Since 1994 she is Senior Lecturer at the University of Valencia. Her main research interest focuses on the inflammatory process and the mechanisms involved in the development and/or resolution of inflammatory diseases as well as in the study of new compounds with anti-inflammatory activity. In the last decade, she has worked in animal models of rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis, and in the relationship between osteoporosis and these osteoarticular pathologies. She is a member of the Spanish Society of Pharmacology.
