William Banks Hinshaw received a B.S. degree in chemistry from Duke University, Durham, NC, USA, in 1963; a Ph.D. degree in organic chemistry from Stanford University, Stanford, CA, USA, in 1968; and an M.D. degree from Albany Medical College of Union University, Albany, NY, USA, in 1978. In 1967-1968, Hinshaw was Fellow of the National Arthritis Society at Ecole de Médecine et Pharmacie, Reims, France. Hinshaw is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology. He is licensed (NC) to practice medicine and surgery. He has experience in undergraduate research in organophosphorus chemistry and graduate research in biomimetic organic mechanism of action and 5 years’ experience in medicinal chemistry research (1968–1973). Since 1982, he has been Private Practitioner of medicine. In 1996-1997, he served as medical director of a clinical research organization. From 1996 to present he has been specialized in prevention and treatment of skeletal fragility. He is Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology; American Society of Bone and Mineral Research; and International Osteoporosis Foundation.
