Dorothee Volkert

Dorothee Volkert studied nutrition science at the University of Stuttgart-Hohenheim, Stuttgart, Germany, and received her Ph.D. degree in 1991. From 1991 to 1996 she worked as Research Associate at the Geriatric Hospital Bethanien of the University of Heidelberg and thereafter at the Department of Nutrition Science, University of Bonn, Bonn, Germany. In 2001, she acquired her postdoctoral lecture qualification and then worked as Associate Professor at the University of Bonn. In 2005, she changed to the clinical nutrition industry where she was responsible for scientific affairs, until she was appointed the Theo and Friedl Schöller Foundation Professor for clinical nutrition in the elderly at the Institute for Biomedicine of Aging, Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg, Erlangen, Germany, in 2009. Volkert´s research interests are in the fields of clinical nutrition and nutritional epidemiology. She conducted numerous research projects on the nutritional situation of the elderly in Germany. She is first author of the "ESPEN Guidelines on Enteral Nutrition: Geriatrics" and coauthor of several standards and guidelines for quality management of nutritional care for the elderly in Germany. She is Member of the Scientific Board of the German Nutrition Society (DGE), the German Society of Clinical Nutrition (DGEM), and the European Society of Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism (ESPEN).
