Mario R Romano, a holder of the M.D. and Ph.D. degrees, is in charge of the Vitreoretinal Service of the Istituto Clinico e di Ricerca Humanitas in Milan, Italy. Dr. Romano enriched his training in ophthalmology with clinical and research activities in highly recognised international centres. In particular, he completed a research fellowship in vitreoretinal diseases at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, Harvard Medical School in Boston, USA, and a surgical vitreoretinal fellowship at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital, UK. He also completed his Ph.D. degree in pharmacology and molecular oncology in 2009. In addition to clinical and surgical activity, Dr. Romano is devoted to clinical research in the field of retinal diseases. His research projects account for endotamponade, intraocular temperature, intraocular inflammation, and degenerative ocular disease. Dr. Romano has published extensively in the area of vitreoretinal diseases and serves as member of 10 international societies and as reviewer of 15 international peer-reviewed journals.
