Medhat R. Wassef

Medhat R. Wassef graduated from the Faculty of Medicine, Cairo University, Giza, Egypt with the degrees of M.B. and B.C.H. He was interested in anaesthesia and obtained the Diploma of Anaesthesia DA, from Faculty of Medicine, Cairo University. To further his ambition of in-depth studies, he went to England and obtained the Fellowship of the Royal College of Anaesthetists in London, FRCA. In England, he worked as a Senior Registrar in anaesthesia, then completed his research at the Department of Pharmacology of Manchester University, where he published his first paper in the British Journal of Anaesthesia. Simultaneously, he did an extensive work in the field of anaesthesia for open heart surgery, which later was published in three papers. These were also presented in a prestigious international meeting, specialized in open heart surgery, in Osaka, Japan. In USA, Wassef joined the Department of Anesthesiology of Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York. Few years later, he joined the Faculty of Mount Sinai School of Medicine, Department of Anesthesiology in New York. Currently, he serves as an Assistant Professor of Clinical Anesthesiology and Attending Anesthesiologist at Elmhurst Hospital, Queens, New York. His main research interest is regional anesthesia and anesthesia for orthopedic surgery. He has published few new techniques for regional anesthesia. Wassef also has published 12 original peer-reviewed articles, 5 letters to the editor, and participated in regional anesthesia manual. He has presented 52 abstracts in several national and international meetings.
