Edward A. Payzant earned a B.S. degree in physics from Dalhousie University, Halifax, NS, Canada, B.Eng. and M.S. degrees in engineering physics from the Technical University of Nova Scotia, Halifax, NS, Canada, and a Ph.D. degree in materials engineering from the University of Western Ontario, London, ON, Canada. He is presently a distinguished R&D staff member and leads the Engineering Materials Group in the Chemical and Engineering Materials Division of Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Oak Ridge, TN, United States. His research interests include development and characterization of ion-conducting ceramics and the application of X-ray and neutron diffraction methods for determination of structure, texture, and residual stress in engineering materials and X-ray and neutron scattering characterization of nanomaterials. He has coauthored over 160 papers in peer-reviewed journals in addition to over 40 conference proceedings papers and technical reports. He is a member of ASM International and the Neutron Scattering Society of America and a Fellow of the International Center for Diffraction Data.
