Ricardo J. Ferrari

Ricardo J. Ferrari received the Engineer degree from the University of São Paulo, São Carlos, SP, Brazil, in 1995, and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from the same university, in 1998 and 2002, respectively. During his Ph.D. study, he was awarded a prestigious Brazilian scholarship to do part of his studies at the University of Calgary, Calgary, AB, Canada, where he worked, from 1999 to 2000, on the development of medical image processing algorithms for the detection of breast cancer. Ferrari worked as an Associate Researcher in the field of medical imaging at the University of Alberta, Edmonton, AB, Canada, from 2004 to 2005, and at Sunnybrook Hospital, Toronto, ON, Canada, from 2007 to 2008. Besides his academic experiences, Ferrari has also worked for high technology medical companies in Canada, including Imaging Dynamics Company Ltd., Z-Tech Canada Inc., and Philips Research North America. Since 2010, Ricardo has been serving as an Assistant Professor at the Computer Science Department, Federal University of São Carlos (UFSCar), São Carlos, SP, Brazil. His research interests include multidimensional signal processing, statistical modeling, machine learning, computer vision, and pattern recognition. Currently, his work focuses on the development of computer-aided detection and diagnosis systems, in particular, for breast cancer and multiple sclerosis lesions.
