R. Valenta received a Univ. Prof. Dr. med. degree. Currently, he serves as a Professor of allergology. In June 1987, he received an M.D. degree. In 1993, he received Habilitation degree in general and experimental pathology, University of Vienna Medical School. He served as an Associate Professor. Since April 1993, he served as a Head of the group Molecular Immunopathology in the Division of Immunopathology (Prof. D. Kraft), University of Vienna. In 1996, he gained a Special degree in pathophysiology. In 1998, he received a Special degree in immunology. In 2004, he served as a Professor for allergology at the Medical University of Vienna. From 2005 to 2007, he served as a Second Vice president of the European Academy of Allergology and Clinical Immunology. In 2006, he worked as a Head of a Christian Doppler Laboratory for Allergy Research at the Department of Pathophysiology, Medical University of Vienna. In 2008, he served as the President of the Austrian Society for Allergology and Immunology. During the period from 1991 till 2001, he received 10 national and international awards. In 1996, he received the International Award of the Pharmacia Allergy Research Foundation. In 1998, he gained the START Award of the Austrian Science Fund (FWF), in 2001, the Sarstedt Award, and in 2001 the Alois Sonnleitner Award for Immunology of the Austrian Academy of Sciences. In 2006, he served as a Corresponding Member of the Austrian Academy of Sciences. He has 380 original publications, reviews, and book contributions. He has given 179 invited lectures. He is the author or coauthor on more than 30 international patents/patent applications.
