Alexander C. H. Geurts

Alexander C. H. Geurts was born in Nijmegen, The Netherlands, in 1961. He received both his M.D. (1987) and Ph.D. (1992) degrees in medical science from the Radboud University Nijmegen, The Netherlands. After his registration as a specialist in rehabilitation medicine (1996), he started working at the St. Maartenskliniek in Nijmegen as a Neurorehabilitation Specialist and Senior Researcher. He was registered as a Physiatrist by the European Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation in 1997 and as a Clinical Epidemiologist in The Netherlands (SMWBO) in 2001. Since 1992, he has continued his main research interest in balance, gait, and motor recovery with a focus on neurorehabilitation, especially stroke rehabilitation. He has been serving as a (co)chair of several national research programs in neurorehabilitation since 1998. In 2005, he has become a Full Professor and Chair of the Department of Rehabilitation at the Radboud University Medical Center, and since 2009, he has been acting as a Principal Investigator (PI) and Board Member of the research institutes Nijmegen Center for Evidence-Based Practice (NCEBP) and Donders Center for Neuroscience (DCN) in Nijmegen. In addition, he has a clinical and scientific affiliation with the rehabilitation center of the St. Maartenskliniek. He works as the Vice President of the Dutch Society for Neurorehabilitation (DSNR), affiliated with the World Federation for Neurorehabilitation (WFNR).
