Anastasios Markopoulos received his D.D.S. degree from School of Dentistry, Aristotle University, Thessaloniki, Greece, in 1977 and his Ph.D. degree in oral medicine/pathology from the same university in 1986. He also received an M.S. degree in oral biology from University of California, Los Angeles, in 1991. In 1981, he was appointed as Instructor in Aristotle University, and currently he is Professor of oral medicine/pathology at the same University. He was also appointed as a Visiting Research Immunologist in the University of California, Los Angeles, Calif, USA, in 1989. During the period 2003-2007, he was Director of Graduate Program of Oral Medicine/Pathology in Aristotle University. His clinical and research interests include the clinicopathologic features of oral diseases, molecular pathology of oral diseases, immunopathology of autoimmune skin diseases, immunopathology of oral neoplasms, and salivary transcriptome diagnostics. He is author of 120 clinical and research articles published in international and Greek medical and dental journals. He also performed 147 presentations in Greek, European, and US congresses. He is author of two books: A Handbook of Oral Physiology and Oral Biology, Bentham Science Publishers Ltd., 2010 and Oral Manifestations of Endocrine Diseases, University Studio Press, 2001.
