Alejandro Cifuentes is a Full Research Professor at the Institute of Food Science Research (CIAL), CSIC, Madrid, Spain. He has been the Acting Director of CIAL and the Deputy Director of the Institute of Industrial Fermentations (CSIC). His activity includes advanced analytical methods development for food quality and safety including nutrigenomics as well as isolation and identification of biologically active natural products. He received his M.S. degree in chemistry in 1988 and the Ph.D. degree also in chemistry in 1992. Cifuentes is an author of over 140 SCI papers, 12 books and book chapters, and 5 patents. Dr. Cifuentes has participated in 32 different R+D projects (supported by regional, national, and international institutions and companies) acting as a Principal Researcher in 16 of them. Dr. Cifuentes holds different national and international awards, and during his career, he has been responsible for training more than 20 people including technicians and M.S., Ph.D., and postdoctoral students from Spain and abroad. He has also participated as an invited lecturer, scientific committee member, or organizer of more than 50 courses and symposia arranged by different national and international institutions from Asia, Europe, and America. He is a Member of the Editorial Boards of Electrophoresis, Journal of Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Analysis, Journal of Separation Science, The Open Analytical Chemistry Journal, The Open Current Process Chemistry Journal, The Open Chemical and Biomedical Methods Journal, and Cromatografía y Técnicas Afines. He has collaborated as a Guest Editor in different special issues of Electrophoresis (Food and Beverages Analysis issue), Journal of Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Analysis (Nutraceuticals Analysis issue), and Journal of Separation Science (Food Analysis issue).
