Shizuya Saika

Shizuya Saika was born in 1964 in Japan. He got the M.D. degree at Wakayama Medical University, Wakayama, Japan in 1988 and then obtained the Ph.D. degree in Ophthalmic Research Lab of Wakayama Medical University, Wakayama, Japan with some publications on in vitro and in vivo studies on corneal wound healing in 1993. He became a Clinical Staff of the Department of Ophthalmology, Wakayama Medical University. After promotion to Assistant Professor of ophthalmology, he moved to Dr. Winston Kao’s Lab at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, Cincinnati, Ohio, USA in 1998 and continued research on corneal wound healing. After returning to Wakayama Medical University, he was promoted to Associate Professor in 2005 and then to the Full Professor and Chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology of the University in 2007. From 2000, he has been working on cytokine signaling in corneal wound healing and embryonic development of the corneal tissue.
