Yoshio Shimizu

Yoshio Shimizu, holder of M.D. and Ph.D. degrees, is an Associate Professor at the Division of Nephrology, Department of Internal Medicine at Juntendo University, Faculty of Medicine in Japan. He graduated from Yamagata University School of Medicine, Yamagata, Japan and started his M.D. degree in 1992. He underwent postgraduate training as a resident for 6 years in the Tsukuba University Hospital in Japan. He completed his Ph.D. degree with a thesis focusing on the genetics of a novel Fc receptor at the Graduate School of the University of Tsukuba in 2002. He worked for the University of Tsukuba between 2002 and 2007 as an Assistant Professor. Then, he moved to Juntendo University Faculty of Medicine as a visiting Associate Professor in 2007 and became an Associate Professor in 2008. His research background is immunology, molecular biology, and genetics and he is presently interested in the epigenetic process, especially in the role of methylation of the genome in kidney diseases.
