Dott Giampiero Valè is a Research Group Leader in the Genomics Research Centre and in charge Director at the Rice Research Unit of CRA. He received his M.S. degree in agricultural sciences from the Catholic University of Piacenza, Milano, Italy, and his Ph.D. degree in applied genetics from the University of Milan, Milano, Italy. His research activity has been focused on plant functional and structural genomics with particular emphasis on plant-pathogen interaction studies that include the map-based cloning of disease resistance genes in barley, identification and mapping of new disease resistance genes in barley, durum wheat, and rice. His current research activities also include the development of a physical map for bread wheat chromosome 5A, microarray and RNA-seq-based transcriptomic studies on cereal-fungal pathogen interactions, and identification of genetic loci involved in rice adaptation to aerobic growing conditions.
