Kalliopi Karatzi

Kalliopi Karatzi was awarded her B.S. degree in dietetics and nutrition science in 1999 and she holds an M.S. degree in applied dietetics and a Ph.D. degree from Harokopio University, Athens, Greece. Between 2002 and 2005, she has worked under contract in training undergraduate students of Harokopio University during their practical placement in clinical settings. From 2006 till now she is an elected research and teaching staff of Harokopio University. Dr. Karatzi has lectured undergraduate and graduate courses in nutrition and clinical dietetics in both Athens Medical School and Harokopio University for more than 15 years. She is a Research Associate at the Institute of Cardiovascular Research of the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Maastricht (Maastricht, Netherlands), also at the Vascular Laboratory of the Department of Clinical Therapeutics at Alexandra University Hospital in Athens, Greece, and at the Cardiovascular Research Laboratory of the 1st Department of Propaedeutic and Internal Medicine in Athens University Medical School. She has received scholars from the “Harokopos-Petroutsis Foundation” and awards from the Hellenic Society of Cardiology, the Hellenic Society of Lipidology and Atherosclerosis, and the Hellenic Medical Association. She is an author of 47 scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals and of several chapters in scientific books. She is a Reviewer for over 10 peer-reviewed journals and a Member of the Editorial Board of 2 journals. She has participated in several national and 3 European studies. Her research interests focus on the effects of diet and lifestyle on vascular function, preclinical atherosclerosis, hypertension, and cardiovascular disease. She is also interested in the associations of anthropometric characteristics and body composition with vascular function. Finally she is investigating childhood obesity and dietary and lifestyle determinants of childhood hypertension.
