Risto Honkanen

Dr. Risto Honkanen was born in Finland in 1939. He graduated with a M.D. from the University of Helsinki in 1965 and received his Ph.D. degree from Department of Public Health Science, University of Helsinki in 1976. He has been working in Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, University of Liverpool in 1966, Missionary doctor of Finnish Missionary Society in Taiwan 1967-70, and performed hospital work for 2 years and general practitioner for 8 years in Finland. He has been working in Department of Public Health Science and Research Institute of Public Health, University of Kuopio from 1979 and as acting professor for 3 years. In addition, he has been Research professor in Institute of Community Medicine in University of Tromso, Norway during 1994-1997. His professor competencies are: preventive medicine (1994), epidemiology (1997) and public health science (1998). His research areas are: injury epidemiology, osteoporosis, psychiatric epidemiology. He has 115 international and 50 national publications and he has supervised 14 medical doctoral thesis students.
