Stephen S. Fong received his B.S. degree in chemical engineering from WPI (Worcester Polytechnic Institute) in 1998 and his Ph.D. degree in bioengineering from UCSD (University of California, San Diego, CA, USA) in 2004. Fong joined the faculty in the Department of Chemical and Life Science Engineering (CLSE) at VCU (Virginia Commonwealth University) in 2005. He is currently an Associate Professor in the CLSE Department and the Associate Department Chair. He is also a Codirector of Systems Biology at the VCU Research Center and a Fellow of the Center for the Study of Biological Complexity. Fong's research applies systems biology and synthetic biology approaches in areas such as metabolic engineering. Specific methodologies employed include genome-scale modeling, agent-based modeling, statistical and algorithmic analysis of high-throughput data, and experimental validation/implementation.
