Haluk Barbaros Oral studied medicine at the Uludag University Faculty of Medicine, Bursa, Turkey (1982–1988) and became a specialist in infectious diseases and clinical microbiology at the same university in 1998. He obtained his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees (1992–1997) at the Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine, the University of London, UK, on research aimed to prevent corneal transplant rejection by delivering the potential therapeutic genes into endothelium. He has been a Professor at Uludag University since 2008. He has published over 50 papers in peer-reviewed journals and various book chapters in the fields of microbiology and immunology. He is also on the editorial and reviewer boards of several scientific journals. His main research interests include roles of cytokines and T cell responses in granulomatous diseases, investigation of new molecular targets in granulomatous infectious diseases, immunogenetics of diseases, and, recently, development of potential immune therapeutic gene delivery vectors. He is a Member of Turkish Immunology Society for Immunology (Vice President), Balkan Associations of Immunology Societies (General Secretary), Molecular Cancer Research Society (Board Member), Society of Turk Clinical Microbiology & Infectious Diseases, and Turkish Microbiology Society.
