Gianfranco D. Alpini received his Ph.D. degree from University of Rome "La Sapienza", Rome, Italy. He is a Professor of medicine at Central Texas Veterans Health Care System, Scott & White Healthcare, and College of Medicine, Health Science Center, Texas A&M. His honors include recieving the Research Career Award 2004, Department of Veterans Affairs; being a Holder of the Centennial Hightower Chair for Gastroenterology; an Editor in Chief for Research Journal of Medical Sciences; an Associate Editor in the World Journal of Gastroenterology and Digestive Liver Disease; and a Member of VA study session (Gastroenterology). The focus of his research program is to evaluate the role of nerve and vascular factors in the heterogeneous proliferative and secretory responses of small and large cholangiocytes during cholestasis and liver injury.
