Kim was a Postdoctoral Associate, University of Stuttgart; Postdoctoral Associate, Center for Nano Science and Technology, University of Notre Dame; Research Assistant Professor, North Carolina State University; Assistant Professor, Saint Augustine's College, Raleigh, NC, USA. Kim is a Registered Referee for Modern Physics Letters B, World Scientific. Kim's areas of expertise are quantum thermodynamics: thermodynamics of small-scale quantum systems; nonequilibrium statistical physics: Brownian motions, and so forth; nanocondensed matter physics; quantum information science.
