Haruki Komatsu

Haruki Komatsu was born in Iwate, Japan, in 1965. He graduated from National Defense Medical College and gained his degree of medical doctor in 1992. From 1992 to 1994, he was a Junior Resident in the National Defense Medical College Hospital. From 1995 to 1996, he was an Assistant in the Department of Pediatrics in Yamagata University. From 1997 to 1999, he was a Senior Resident in the Department of Pediatrics in the National Defense Medical College. From 1999 to 2003, he was a Ph.D. degree student. Komatsu researched pediatric viral hepatitis during his Ph.D. degree course. In 2000, he received Young Investigation Award in World Congress of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition (Boston, USA). In 2004, he got his Ph.D. degree at the National Institution for Academic Degrees and University Evaluation. Between 2001 and 2002, he was a Research Assistant in the University of Oxford (Professor Paul Klenerman). During 2004 and 2006, Komatsu was a Medical Officer in the 10th Division of National Ground Defense Force. From 2006 to 2007, he was an Assistant in Pediatric Department of Toho University Sakura Medical Center. From 2007 to 2011, he was a Senior Doctor in Pediatric Department of Eastern Yokohama Hospital. Since 2012, he has been an Associate Professor at the Pediatric Department, Toho University Sakura Hospital. Komatsu received Japanese Society for Pediatric Infectious Diseases Research Award in 2007 and Hepatology Research Award in 2010.
