Nikolaos Koukouzas

Dr. Nikolaos Koukouzas is a Geologist and holds an MSc and PhD in Industrial Mineralogy from Leicester University, UK. He has more than 25 years of experience on CCS, industrial mineral applications, coal mining, power production, coal combustion by-products utilisation, co-combustion of coal with biomass related topics. He was appointed to the European Commission, DG Energy & Transport, as Detached Expert in Coal Technology (1999-2003). Nowadays, he is the Director of Research in CERTH/ISFTA, managing the research activities of the Institute. He is a member of the Government Group of the European Technology Platform for Zero Emissions Fossil Fuel Power Plants (ETP ZEP), represents the country in the Carbon Sequestration Leadership Forum (CSLF), the European Association for Coal and Lignite (EURACOAL-Executive Committee) and acts as consultant to the European Commission and the industry. Dr. Koukouzas has extensive experience in CO2 related projects (e.g. FENCO ERANET, RISCS, C2H, UCG-CO2, ECCSEL, Greece-Czech Republic and Greece-USA bilateral projects). He is an author of over 150 publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals and conferences and he is Member of the Editorial Board of the International Journal of Greenhouse Gas Control and reviewer of many International Journals.
