Giuseppe Lo Re

Giuseppe Lo Re received the Laurea degree in computer science from the University of Pisa, Pisa, Italy, and the Ph.D. degree in electronic, computer science, and telecommunications engineering from the University of Palermo, Palermo, Italy, in 1990 and in 1999, respectively. In 1991, he joined the Italian National Research Council, and he worked at the Centro di Studio sulle Reti di Elaboratori (CERE) and the Istituto di Calcolo e Reti ad Alte Prestazioni (ICAR). During his CNR activity, he achieved the senior researcher position. In 1994, he was a Visiting Scientist at the IBM European Networking Center, Heidelberg, Germany, and in 1999 at the International Computer Science Institute, Berkeley, CA, USA. In December 2004, he joined the University of Palermo, where he currently is an Associate Professor of computer engineering. He teaches operating systems at the undergraduate level and advanced computer networking at the graduate level. He has been a member of various committees for projects of national interest in Italy and he is the referee of several scientific congresses and journals. His current research interests are in the area of computer networks and distributed systems, broadly focusing on load balancing techniques for computing distributed systems, Routing Algorithms for the multicast tree problem, active networks, congestion control, artificial intelligence methodologies applied to networking field, and wireless sensor networks. Results achieved in such fields have been the subject of several international publications. He is a Member of IEEE and in particular of its Communication Society, ACM, and its SIGCOMM, AIxIA, and AICA.
