Lewis S. Nelson is currently an Associate Professor of emergency medicine at New York University School of Medicine and is an attending physician at both NYU Langone Medical Center and Bellevue Hospital Center. He is the Director of the Fellowship in Medical Toxicology at New York University School of Medicine and the Associate Medical Director of the New York City Poison Control Center. He is the Cochairman of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee of New York University Medical Center and the Director of the Medical Center’s Medication Safety Committee. He is an elected Member of the Board of Directors of the American College of Medical Toxicology, the professional organization for physicians board certified in medical toxicology, and currently he serves as its Vice President. He is the Chair of the Medical Toxicology Subboard, the organization that administers the board certification exam. Dr. Nelson is an Editor of Goldfrank’s Toxicologic Emergencies, now in its 9th Edition, a major textbook in the field of medical toxicology, and he is on the Editorial Board of several journals including the Annals of Emergency Medicine. He has published over 130 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters and presents frequently at national and international meetings. The focus of his publications and presentations are medication-related adverse effects and toxicity, drugs of abuse, and chemical aspects of bioterrorism.
