Prasert Auewarakul is a Professor of virology at the Department of Microbiology, Faculty of Medicine at the Mahidol University in Bangkok, Thailand, where he has worked since 1997. He is also the Director of the Institute of Molecular Biosciences at Mahidol University and the President of the Virology Association of Thailand. Auewarakul graduated with an M.D. degree from the Mahidol University, Bangkok, Thailand, in 1988. He also holds a D.M. degree (magna cum laude) from Heidelberg University in Germany, and subsequently he completed a research fellowship at the Harvard AIDS Institute in Boston, USA. His research interests include the molecular biology and pathogenesis of HIV and avian influenza virus. Auewarakul also serves as a Coordinator for the Avian Influenza Program at the NSTDA, a major national research funding agency in Thailand, and has published over 50 papers in peer-reviewed journals.
