Samuel Dupont was born in Lille, France, on May 19, 1973. He received the M.S. degree in laser physics in 1996 and the Ph.D. degree in electronics and optoelectronics systems in 2000, both from University of Lille, Lille, France. He worked for the University of Lille from 2000 to 2003 and for Multitel from 2003 to 2005 and then joined the University of Valenciennes, Valenciennes, France, as an Assistant Professor, his current position, where Dupont is teaching mechatronics at ENSIAME engineer school. His research includes acousto-optic devices and systems; among these are bulk acousto-optic devices for telecommunications and instrumentation applications. Other research interests include acousto-optic coupling phenomenon in simultaneous photonic and phononic crystals, the so-called phoxonic crystals where photoelastic, optomechanical, and electrooptic properties can combine together. The focus is on both theoretical and experimental work as it pertains to the device physics aspects of acousto-optical components. His areas of expertise include acousto-optic devices, acousto-optic coupling in anisotropic crystals, photonic and phononic crystals.
