Jose Carlos Marques

José Carlos Marques was born in Idanha-a-Nova, Portugal, in 1954. He received the Chemical Engineering degree from the Universidade de Coimbra (Portugal) in 1978 and the PhD degree “es sciences techniques” in mass spectrometry from the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (Switzerland) in 1983. Until 1995 he was Quality Control and Quality Assurance manager at Hovione SA, producer of tetracyclines and corticosteroids, and developed an excellent collaboration with some international pharmacopoeias (British, United States and European), having submitted new methods of chromatographic assay for antibiotics and corticosteroids (doxycycline, minocycline, betamethasone and formulations) and participated in the evaluation of four international standards of the United States Pharmacopeia and the European Pharmacopoeia. Presently, he is professor and researcher at the University of Madeira (Portugal) with main scientific interests focused in the development of chromatographic and mass spectrometry methodologies and data analysis applied to natural products and food, specially Madeira wine technology and characterization. He integrates the panel of specialists of the Madeira Regional Quality Plan and is member of the Scientific Committee of the Regional Agency for the Energy and Environment.
