Noriko Yoshimura, M.D., Ph.D. Associate Professor, Department of Joint Disease Research, 22nd Century Medical and Research Center, The University of Tokyo, Japan Noriko Yoshimura earned both her M.D. (1986) and Ph.D. (1996) degrees at Wakayama Medical University. Since 1986, Dr. Yoshimura has worked as an internist in the Second Department of Internal Medicine at Wakayama Medical University. In 1991, Dr. Yoshimura was a Senior Research Associate from 1991 to 2001 and was an Assistant Professor from 2001 to 2005 in the Department of Public Health at the Wakayama Medical University. From 2005 to the present, Dr. Yoshimura has been a Project Associate Professor in the Department of Joint Disease Research at the University of Tokyo. She is interested primarily in the epidemiology of bone and joint diseases such as osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, lumbar spondylosis, Paget’s disease of bone, and ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament. Dr. Yoshimura has received young investigator awards from the Japanese Society of Bone Morphometry (1999), the Japan Epidemiological Association (2000), the Japan Osteoporosis Society (2001) and the Japanese Orthopaedic Association (2006). She has been a board member of Japan Osteoporosis Society, the Japanese Society of Bone Morphometry, and the Japanese Society for Bone and Mineral Research, and she is currently a member of the Scientific Committee of the International Osteoporosis Foundation, the European Calcified Tissue Society, the International Bone and Mineral Society, and the American Society for Bone and Mineral Research.
