Sensitivity Analysis of Stability and Deformation of Underground Structures

This issue is now closed for submissions.

Description

The contradiction between increasing construction demand and limited urban space has become increasingly obvious, with rapid growth of the global economy and urban construction, but the development and use of urban underground space can effectively help relieve urban challenges such as housing shortage and traffic congestion. The stability and deformation of underground construction, such as deep excavation engineering and tunnel engineering, plays an important role in not only its own structural safety, but also that of the surrounding buildings as the structural distortion is influenced.

In recent years, many methods, including laboratory experiments, theoretical analysis, and numerical simulation, have been employed to investigate the stability and deformation of underground engineering. However, comprehensive insight into underground engineering is often hampered due to the fact that unexcavated geological conditions are enormously complex. Therefore, further studies on the stability and deformation of underground engineering are still needed, such as mechanical characteristics of underground structures and soils, nonlinear flow in fractures, and new experimental and numerical methods.

The aim of this Special Issue is to bring together papers on different topics related to the stability and deformation of underground engineering, such as experimental founding, constitutive models, and their engineering applications. Submissions relating to theory, experiments, techniques, numerical methods, and engineering projects are all welcomed, including both original research and review articles.

Potential topics include but are not limited to the following:

  • Interaction between pile foundations and soils
  • Prediction of the deformation and stability of slopes of deep foundation pits
  • Analysis and modelling on tunnel and building structures
  • Mechanical and permeability characteristics of soils
  • Constitutive modelling and numerical methods
  • Case studies related to underground engineering
