Advanced Concrete Technology and its Structural Applications

Description

Concrete is the most widely used building material in the world and it plays a very important role in building modern infrastructures that stand the test of time. With the ever-increasing demand for higher performance, resilient, sustainable, and smart infrastructures, various advanced concrete technologies have been invented, researched, and implemented at a structural scale.

High performance and smart concrete materials have been designed to possess superior mechanical and functional performance, such as ultra-high compressive strength, high tensile strength and ductility, high durability, self-consolidating, self-healing, self-sensing, and/or self-cleaning capacities. Research on the application of these structures at structural and infrastructural scale and its performance has been carried out to fully demonstrate the benefits of these advanced concrete technologies.

The aim of this Special Issue is to publish up-to-date research contributions related to advanced concrete technologies and their structural use in civil engineering applications. We invite submissions of comprehensive review papers and original research on the topics relevant to this Special Issue.

Potential topics include but are not limited to the following:

  • Development of novel concrete materials with high mechanical performance or special functionality
  • Mechanical properties and modelling of advanced concrete materials
  • Structural application and modelling of advanced concrete materials
  • Durability and sustainability
  • Concrete performance under extreme conditions
  • Additive manufacturing
  • Fresh properties and constructability
  • Admixtures
  • Testing methods and standardization in civil engineering
  • Field applications
  • Service life prediction and life cycle assessment (LCA)
