Schematic diagram of the proposed pump-probe experiment. A continuous stream of a solution of identical molecules in random orientations is introduced to the path of the X-ray beam after photoexcitation by a laser a controllable time before interrogation by the X-rays. The time delay between photoexcitation and X-ray incidence is controlled by varying the distance between the positions of photoexcitation and X-ray incidence.
