The Study of Neutrino Oscillations with Emulsion Detectors

Figure 16

Reconstructed charm event in CHORUS. The view is about 400 × 400 μm2. The neutrino comes from the bottom of the picture. The event is similar to one possibly induced by a tau-neutrino. The short track of the charmed particle (light blue) exhibits the distinctive kink topology, due to the decay into an undetected neutrino. The presence of an identified prompt negative muon track (red dots) by means of the downstream spectrometer strongly favors the charm event hypothesis.
