Nanooptoelectronics Devices, Technologies, and Applications

Call for Papers

Over the past decade, a variety of new concepts including nanostructures and nanomaterials have been developed for optoelectronic applications, resulting in proliferation of new devices, technologies, and applications which provide improved speed, bandwidth, efficiency, power consumption, compactness, and system integration and even resulting in completely new functionalities. The trend is expected to continue, with diverse fields of study opening up that promise to deliver novel technological advancements and solutions in years to come.

This special issue catches on the pursuit to use nanostructured media for novel and improved optoelectronic devices. Starting with the invention of the heterostructure laser, the progression via thin films to quasi zero-dimensional quantum dots has led to novel device concepts and tremendous improvements in device performance. Sophisticated methods of material preparation and characterization have been developed. Novel physical phenomena have emerged and are now used in devices such as lasers, optical amplifiers and other devices.

The special issue focuses on the most recent advances in the fields of optoelectronics, related to devices, technologies, and their applications, especially for the development of nanostructures/nanomaterials-based passive/active optoelectronic devices and their applications in various fields, their material basis, physical phenomena, device physics, and systems.

Potential topics include but are not limited to the following:

  • Nanooptoelectronic devices, such as light emitting diodes, photodetectors, photovoltaics, waveguides, splitters, lasers, modulators, switches, and sensors
  • Nanostructures/nanomaterials and their physics with light interaction
  • Novel fabrication, processing, and characterization techniques
  • The applications of nanoscale optoelectronic devices in information, telecommunication, optical equipment and computing, and so forth
  • Reviews and perspective views on the state, challenge and future direction of optoelectronics development, and so on
