Advances in Optical Fiber Sensors for Sustainable Environments

Call for Papers

With the rise of our global population and industries, natural environments around us have been paying the price. A global pollution crisis is raging across the world in air, water, and soil. To provide sustainable environments for our societies, selective pollution sensors and treatment techniques are of paramount importance.

The landscape of optical fiber sensing technologies is well established. Yet, it is continuously changing and adapting to solving new problems, thanks to innovations in functional materials and sensing structures. Optical fiber sensors for environmental sensing have been under the spotlight in recent years, as demand soars for better ways to monitor our rapidly declining natural environments.

This special issue focuses on the latest developments in optical fiber sensors of natural environments, with the goal of achieving sustainable environments. We especially encourage review articles which describe the current state of the art.

Potential topics include but are not limited to the following:

  • Optical fiber sensors for water-quality monitoring
  • Optical fiber sensors for air-quality monitoring
  • Optical fiber sensors for soil- monitoring
  • Optical fiber sensors for food-safety monitoring
  • Optical fiber sensors for structural monitoring
  • Optical fiber sensors for vibration monitoring
  • Optical fiber sensors for acoustic monitoring
  • Optical fiber biosensors
  • Optical fiber chemical sensors
  • Distributed optical fiber sensors
