Tribological Behavior of Additive Manufactured Materials

Call for Papers

Additive manufacturing technology is an advanced manufacturing process that can be used to fabricate three-dimensional (3D) parts by building the part up directly using the 3D computer-aided design of the part. This manufacturing process helps the part designer change the way parts are designed with less concern about how the part will be manufactured. The additive manufacturing process is a very promising manufacturing process with a great advantage in its capability to reduce the weight of the manufactured part. The main challenge that is facing the use of this important manufacturing process in its application in the production of more critical parts is the lack of adequate information on the properties of the additive manufacture parts including the tribological properties. This special issue is aimed at bringing to the limelight the tribological behavior of parts produced using additive manufacturing processes.

The scope of this special issue includes tribological studies of materials fabricated using any of the seven basic classes of additive manufacturing technologies, namely, powder bed fusion, directed energy deposition, sheet lamination, material extrusion, binder jetting, material jetting, and vat photopolymerization. This special issue also welcomes submissions on research and review articles describing the current state of the art in this research field.

Potential topics include but are not limited to the following:

  • State of the art on the tribological properties of additive manufactured materials
  • Wear resistance behavior of materials produced using additive manufacturing processes
  • Surface modification of materials for optimum wear resistance property using additive manufacturing technologies
  • Influence of processing parameters on wear resistance behavior of additive manufactured parts
  • Wear resistance behavior of additive manufactured composite materials
