The diagram demonstrates that the orbitals transform under the a′ symmetry label while the orbitals transform under the a′, a″, and a″; this observation suggests the weak Jahn–Teller distortion. This explains why the observed effective magnetic moment was a bit lower than the expected magnetic moment which is because of the unpaired electron not having orbital contribution from interacting with the other orbitals, thus having no effect on the magnetic moment.
